IMPROVING FOCUS

For many of us, we have many roles, which include many competing tasks. I too have many hats, wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend, business owner, volunteer, leader, blogger…the list can go on and on.

I had a great moment yesterday when a presenter I was listening to said, “Where you are, be there. Give the gift of attention.” Unknown.

It was in that moment I realized why for many months in my family and business life things had been going very well. I had been present.

Most recently, with a few additional tasks coming back on my plate, I have felt a sense of unease in my juggling act.

I didn’t realize until now, how my motivation can be thrown off simply by not having organization, true focus and presence in the specific tasks I am working to complete.

Take a moment today, at work or home to monitor whether you are being present in the task at hand. Is your mind wandering or making lists?? Are you multi-tasking so much that you forget the activity you are actually supposed to be doing?? Is your child tugging on your leg and saying “Mommy, you are supposed to be playing with me remember?.”

I have been there, especially this month, but my realization for how much focus truly impacts my motivation has helped me to begin to get back on track.
